Overview

Smartbrowse for Marketplace ("the extension", "we", "us") is a browser extension that helps you filter, organize, and compare Facebook Marketplace listings. This policy explains what data Smartbrowse stores in your browser or sends, how it is used, and what we do not collect.

Data we collect

Anonymous usage statistics

The extension sends limited, anonymous usage events to Google Analytics 4 (GA4) using the Measurement Protocol. These events help us understand which features are used and whether the extension is working correctly. We do not use this data for advertising, profiling, or sale to third parties. The data collected is:

  • A randomly generated client ID — a UUID created locally in your browser the first time you install the extension. It is not linked to your Google account, Facebook account, or any personally identifiable information.
  • A session ID — derived from the current timestamp and reset after 30 minutes of inactivity.
  • Event names and limited event parameters — for example, when extension pages are opened, settings are changed, or extension features are used. Analytics events do not include webpage content, listing URLs, or personally identifiable information.

Radius geocoding

If you enable Strict location radius or use the Pro “Nearby only” Market Radar toggle and a listing city is not already cached, Smartbrowse may send a normalized city/state lookup key to the Smartbrowse geocoding API. These requests do not include listing titles, item IDs, listing URLs, prices, seller information, or raw page/card text. The resulting cache is stored locally in your browser.

Market Radar sweep data

When you launch Market Radar, the extension reads listing details from the Marketplace saved-search tabs you asked it to open. The active sweep can include item IDs, listing URLs, titles, prices, displayed locations or distances, image URLs, and the saved searches where a listing appeared. Smartbrowse stores this data locally in your browser so Radar can deduplicate, filter, sort, and display the sweep. It is not sent to Smartbrowse or included in analytics.

An active sweep is treated as inactive after 30 minutes without an update and is replaced when you start another sweep. Radar shortlist choices and Pro filter preferences are also kept in your browser.

Extension settings and preferences

Your rules, filters, saved searches, Radar preferences, and other settings are stored using the Chrome browser's built-in chrome.storage.sync and chrome.storage.local APIs. chrome.storage.sync data is synchronized across your signed-in Chrome devices by Google. Smartbrowse does not have access to your synced settings data.

We do not collect:

  • Your name, email address, or account credentials.
  • Marketplace listing content, listing URLs, prices, or seller information.
  • Your web browsing history, including lists of pages you visit, page titles, or the URLs of Marketplace listings you view.
  • Precise GPS coordinates or continuous device-location data.

How we use the data

Anonymous analytics are used solely to:

  • Understand which features are most useful so we can prioritize improvements.
  • Detect errors or unexpected usage patterns that indicate bugs.

Normalized city/state lookup keys are used only to resolve approximate listing locations for the optional strict-radius and Market Radar radius features. We do not sell, rent, or use this information for advertising or profiling.

Market Radar sweep data is used only inside your browser to build the live summary, remove duplicate listings, apply your filters, sort results, and maintain your shortlist.

Third-party services

The extension uses Google Analytics 4 via the Measurement Protocol. Events are sent directly from your browser to Google's servers. Google's data collection is governed by the Google Privacy Policy.

When strict radius is enabled, the extension may also contact a Smartbrowse geocoding endpoint using normalized city/state keys. No listing content, IDs, URLs, or raw card text are included in these requests.

Data retention

Google Analytics retains event data for up to 14 months by default, after which it is automatically deleted. The randomly generated client ID persists in your browser's local storage until you uninstall the extension or clear its storage. Strict-radius geocoding results are cached locally and expire according to the extension's cache rules. A Market Radar sweep becomes inactive after 30 minutes without an update and is replaced by the next sweep you start.

Your choices

You can disable or uninstall the extension to stop future analytics events. You can also leave Strict location radius disabled to prevent optional geocoding requests. Clearing the extension's storage removes locally stored settings and caches.

Children's privacy

The extension is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the effective date above and, where possible, note the change in the extension's changelog. Continued use of the extension after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
